Garden stake SPHINX by Stalen Design is a decorative garden stake and steel garden ornament, also known as a garden spike, garden figure, corten steel garden statue, garden figurine, plant stake, and metal garden decoration. The design shows a sitting cat from the front, with visible whiskers and its tail elegantly in front of it.

This garden stake is made from 3 mm thick Corten steel. Outside, this material develops a natural rust patina that protects the steel against weather influences. The warm layer of rust gives the cat figure a lively, timeless appearance and makes every piece unique.

With a height of 35 cm and a width of 23 cm, the SPHINX Garden Stake is suitable for borders, lawns, planters, front gardens, or patios. You can easily push the design into the ground for a stylish accent. Designed and produced in the Netherlands – pure Dutch Design.

About Corten steel

Corten steel is a high-quality metal alloy consisting of iron enriched with copper, phosphorus, silicon, nickel, and chromium. It is known for its distinctive rust-brown color and natural industrial aesthetic.

What makes Corten steel unique is the dense oxide film (rust layer) that forms on the surface. This layer protects the underlying material from oxygen, which significantly slows down the rusting process and allows the metal to last for years — without rusting through.

Important to know

Corten steel is supplied as standard in its original, grey metallic state (unrusted).
Minor imperfections in the corten steel (such as scratches/steel production codes) will become invisible during the rusting process.
Within approximately 1 to 2 months, a rust-coloured patina layer will form — completely natural, without any additional treatment.
During the rusting process, the material may stain surfaces or surrounding elements.
Corten steel is suitable for outdoor use in all weather conditions and does not require a coating.

Maintenance tips

Let the rusting process take its course. Do not use any chemical agents or oils.
Prevent moisture stains during storage: unpack the material immediately upon receipt.
Avoid standing water on horizontal surfaces to limit staining.
Clean only with water and a soft brush if desired — do not use aggressive cleaning agents.
When mounting on sensitive surfaces: consider a spacer or edge finish to prevent rust runoff.
