The BEEPOST bee hotel from Stalen Design is a corten steel bee hotel and designer insect hotel, also known as a bee house, bee box, bee block, insect house, nesting aid, bee nest, and shelter for wild bees. The integrated oak bee hotel offers solitary bees a sheltered spot while simultaneously adding a sleek, natural garden feature to your outdoor space.

The bee hotel is made of Corten steel and features an oak block with pre-drilled bee holes. The holes have various diameters of 10, 8, and 6 mm, ensuring that different species of wild bees can find a suitable opening. Outdoors, Corten steel develops a warm rust patina that protects the steel from weather influences and provides a durable, natural appearance.

The BEEPOST bee hotel is suitable for mounting on a matching post. Please note: the post is not included and is available separately. Designed and produced in the Netherlands – pure Dutch Design.

About Corten steel

Corten steel is a high-quality metal alloy consisting of iron enriched with copper, phosphorus, silicon, nickel, and chromium. It is known for its distinctive rust-brown color and natural industrial aesthetic.

What makes Corten steel unique is the dense oxide film (rust layer) that forms on the surface. This layer protects the underlying material from oxygen, which significantly slows down the rusting process and allows the metal to last for years — without rusting through.

Important to know

Corten steel is supplied as standard in its original, grey metallic state (unrusted).
Minor imperfections in the corten steel (such as scratches/steel production codes) will become invisible during the rusting process.
Within approximately 1 to 2 months, a rust-coloured patina layer will form — completely natural, without any additional treatment.
During the rusting process, the material may stain surfaces or surrounding elements.
Corten steel is suitable for outdoor use in all weather conditions and does not require a coating.

Maintenance tips

Let the rusting process take its course. Do not use any chemical agents or oils.
Prevent moisture stains during storage: unpack the material immediately upon receipt.
Avoid standing water on horizontal surfaces to limit staining.
Clean only with water and a soft brush if desired — do not use aggressive cleaning agents.
When mounting on sensitive surfaces: consider a spacer or edge finish to prevent rust runoff.
