LADYBIRD garden shape by Stalen Design is a decorative garden shape and steel wall decoration for outdoors, also known as a garden ornament, wall figure, garden decoration, corten steel insect, metal garden element, and wall decoration for the garden. The set consists of 4 ladybugs for the wall and gives every facade, fence, garden wall, or canopy a playful and natural accent.

These garden shapes are made of 1 mm thick Corten steel. Outdoors, this material develops a warm rust patina that protects the steel against the elements. The natural layer of rust makes every ladybug unique and ensures a durable, weather-resistant finish with a vibrant look.

Each ladybug measures approximately 7 x 11 cm. The set contains 2 unique shapes, each included twice. You can easily attach the LADYBIRD garden shape to a wall using stainless steel nails. The wings are delivered flat and can be slightly bent after installation for a subtle 3D effect. Designed and produced in the Netherlands – pure Dutch Design.

About Corten steel

Corten steel is a high-quality metal alloy consisting of iron enriched with copper, phosphorus, silicon, nickel, and chromium. It is known for its distinctive rust-brown color and natural industrial aesthetic.

What makes Corten steel unique is the dense oxide film (rust layer) that forms on the surface. This layer protects the underlying material from oxygen, which significantly slows down the rusting process and allows the metal to last for years — without rusting through.

Important to know

  • Corten steel is supplied as standard in its original, grey metallic state (unrusted).
  • Minor imperfections in the corten steel (such as scratches/steel production codes) will become invisible during the rusting process.
  • Within approximately 1 to 2 months, a rust-coloured patina layer will form — completely natural, without any additional treatment.
  • During the rusting process, the material may stain surfaces or surrounding elements.
  • Corten steel is suitable for outdoor use in all weather conditions and does not require a coating.

Maintenance tips

  • Let the rusting process take its course. Do not use any chemical agents or oils.
  • Prevent moisture stains during storage: unpack the material immediately upon receipt.
  • Avoid standing water on horizontal surfaces to limit staining.
  • Clean only with water and a soft brush if desired — do not use aggressive cleaning agents.
  • When mounting on sensitive surfaces: consider a spacer or edge finish to prevent rust runoff.
